And now on to the products.
My hair gets dried out pretty easily, so I like to use oil before shampooing to add and maintain moisture. My current favorite is Almond oil. It is light and moisturizing. It doesn't weigh my hair down or cause unwanted build up. It also makes my hair really shiny. Coconut oil is also very good and actually penetrates the hair shaft to deeply moisturize, but I find if I use it too often, it builds up in my hair. I like to use Coconut oil once a week.
One 'n Only Argan Oil is my current shampoo. It is sulfate free and very gentle on my hair. It gives my hair really good slip in the shower, and a good amount of shine when my hair dries. You can find it at Sally Beauty Supply and I believe Ulta carries this line as well.
Garnier Fructis Triple Nutrition is my favorite conditioner. I like to use silicone free conditioners because silicone builds up on my hair, which makes it tangled, dull and causes my hair to go limp, so, this conditioner is great for every day use if your hair is sensitive to silicones. I can usually get away with silicones in styling products as long as I use a clarifying shampoo every once in a while. It has Olive oil, Avocado oil, and Shea oil. It makes my hair really soft and is light enough for me to even use a little as a leave in conditioner.
Generic Value Products makes a dupe for Joico K-PAK, which is a protein treatment to strengthen hair. Some peoples hair doesn't take well to protein, but mine loves it. I like to use this after using a clarifying shampoo. I leave it in for about 5 or 10 minutes, then I rinse and follow up with a deep conditioner. If you use a protein treatment, it is important to use a deep conditioner after, because protein doesn't moisturize, it strengthens. I would post my favorite clarifying shampoo and deep conditioner, but I haven't found ones I like enough. :\
Styling products:
I love using Garnier Fructis Wonder Waves spray after I towel dry my hair. It has a light hold and smooths my hair and helps enhance the waves and reduce frizz. This also makes my hair shiny, which is always good. :P
The serum I am currently testing out is One 'n Only Argan oil. So far I like it quite a bit, but I do have to use it sparingly due to the amount of silicone in it. It seems to give my hair more thickness and shine, which is quite nice, and it also seems to reduce the drying time for my hair. I think it adds good heat protectant as well.
What are your favorite products?

ReplyDeleteIt looks like we have similar hair types, only I don't have layers. I use an argan oil (swear by it!) by a brand called Organix, can't believe I hadn't used one till recently
ReplyDeleteOur hair does look pretty similar. :) I've heard good things about the Organix one, I might try that as well. Does your hair like silicones?

DeleteHey lovely, I swear by argan oil! Want to try K-PAK heard lots about it xxx
ReplyDeleteIt's some good stuff, huh? :P K-PAK is really nice. It's good for a light protein treatment once a week. The Generic Value Products version is much more affordable, so if you have a Sally's, I would pick some up. :)
DeleteI only recently decided to purchase some organic shampoo. I'm hoping it really works like every review out there haha.

Thank you. :) I've heard really good things about the Chi Silk Infusion. I may pick that up sometime to give it a try. :)
Deletei like herbal essences conditioners : ) your hair is pretty and you have great tips for us, thank you. how do we tell if something is free of silicones?
ReplyDeleteThose smell soooo good. Thank you! In the ingredients lists, silicones usually end in cone. Common ones I have seen in conditioners I have used in the past are Dimethicone, Cyclomethicone, and Amodimethicone. If you're not sure about a product, you can always look it up online. :)
Deletewow your hair is lush. definitely going to pay attention to your hair care routine! x
